Report finds facade-integrated BIPV has an environmental impact comparable to optimally-oriented roof or ground mounted PV systems.
May 20, 2011 altPOWER's facade installation at the Solaire Building in Battery Park City, Manhattan was analyzed in the report: "Facade BIPV -- The Environmental Life-Cycle Value Proposition". The paper was presented at and published in the American Solar Energy Society (ASES) National Solar Conference Proceedings. Despite less-than-ideal orientation and shading obstructions, the BIPV facade at the Solaire was found to have high environmental benefits by replacing traditional building materials.
