Site Description

A 293 unit, 27 story multi-family residential building in downtown Manhattan. The Solaire is the U.S.'s first environmentally responsible high-rise residential tower. The building is LEED Gold certified.
 

Significance

The Solaire is a groundbreaking building in many ways including, but not limited to its use of photovoltaics. It is one of the first buildings in the United States to incorporate the use of Building Integrated Photovoltaics(BIPV).

The Solaire is composed of three independent systems. A BIPV entrance canopy at the entrance greets visitors and sets the tone for the green aspects of the building. The canopy was custom designed and fabricated by altPOWER to the specifications of the customer. Just above the entrance canopy is a BIPV facade that utilizes several different glass sizes. This facade was also custom designed and fabricated by altPOWER in conjunction with the customer. The final array at the top of the building on the mechanical bulkhead is composed of standard panels mounted to a custom ornamental metal racking system.

altPOWER has worked with all three key partners in this project on other installations, reflecting the success achieved at the Solaire.
