The Solaire
The Solaire is the U.S.'s first environmentally responsible high-rise residential tower. A 293 unit, 27 story multi-family residential building in downtown Manhattan, and is a groundbreaking in its use of photovoltaics. It is one of the first buildings in the United States to incorporate the use of Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) and is LEED Gold certified.
Significance
The Solaire is composed of three independent systems. A BIPV entrance canopy at the entrance greets visitors and sets the tone for the green aspects of the building. Just above the entrance canopy is a BIPV facade that utilizes several different glass sizes. The final array at the top of the building on the mechanical bulkhead is composed of standard panels mounted to a custom ornamental metal racking system.
